My Aged Care Online Account: How to Log In, Link myGov and Use the Portal
By FindMyHelp Editorial Team · Reviewed against official sources on
When Mum or Dad starts to need a bit more help at home, you'll hear "My Aged Care" a lot. It's the Australian Government's starting point for government-funded aged care. Most families also need to use its Online Account, which people often call "the My Aged Care portal" or "My Aged Care login". This guide shows you how to set it up through myGov, what you'll find inside, and how to help someone you care for.
What is the My Aged Care Online Account?
Once someone is registered with My Aged Care, a personal record is created for them. The Online Account is how you see that record. You get to it through myGov (My Aged Care).
In the Online Account you can:
- see your progress, with a summary of where you're up to and what to do next
- find your Aged Care ID, which starts with "AC" followed by 8 digits (for example AC12345678)
- update your details, such as your address, phone and email
- get notifications by SMS and email
- see approved services and look up information about them
- get referral codes to give to providers
- read letters from My Aged Care
- ask to add or remove a registered supporter, such as a son, daughter or friend.

Before you start: you need to be registered
You can only set up an Online Account once you're registered with My Aged Care. Registration happens when you apply for an aged care assessment. If you're not sure whether you or your parent is registered, call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 (My Aged Care).
There are three ways to apply (My Aged Care – How to get assessed):
- Online. Use the online assessment application. You can apply for yourself or for a family member or friend. Have a Medicare card and contact details ready, and allow about 15 to 20 minutes.
- By phone. Call 1800 200 422, and staff will fill in the application with you.
- In person. Book a free appointment with an Aged Care Specialist Officer at a Services Australia centre on 1800 227 475.
The online form also has an optional part to register a supporter. My Aged Care suggests the older person and their supporter fill it in together, in the same place at the same time, because that makes signing and consent easier (My Aged Care – Apply online).
If you've already had an assessment, are already registered, or need care urgently, don't use the online form. Call 1800 200 422 instead.
How to log in to My Aged Care: step by step
You set this up once. These steps follow the official instructions.
Step 1: Make sure you're registered
See the section above. Once you're registered, go to step 2.
Step 2: Sign in to myGov
If you don't have a myGov account, create one first. Services Australia has a guide to creating a myGov account. For help, call the myGov helpdesk on 13 23 07.
Step 3: Link My Aged Care to myGov
In myGov, choose My Aged Care from the list of services and follow the prompts. There are three short steps:
- Say what kind of account you have. You're either looking for or receiving aged care, or supporting someone who is.
- Prove who you are so the account can be found. My Aged Care recommends using the Aged Care ID or a Medicare number. You may also be able to use a Centrelink customer reference number or a Veteran card number.
- Confirm your contact details. Use the name and details that are registered with My Aged Care.
After that, a My Aged Care tile appears on your myGov homepage. Next time, sign in to myGov and select that tile.
Tip: When you're finished, select "Return to myGov" and then sign out. This keeps your information private (My Aged Care – How to use your Online Account).
What you'll see inside the Online Account
Your homepage shows coloured tiles, with your Aged Care ID under your name. Here's what each section holds, based on My Aged Care's guide:
| Section | What's in it |
|---|---|
| Your summary | A progress tracker, past assessments, services you're approved for or receiving, and recommendations |
| Services | Services you're receiving now, and referral codes to find or reactivate for new providers |
| Plans | Support plans created from your assessment |
| Current care approvals | The care you're approved for. You can also change your Support at Home "seeking services" preference here |
| Your profile | Contact details and your Aged Care ID |
| Support networks | People who support you or who you support, plus requests to add or end a relationship |
| Documents | The status of documents you've uploaded |
| Reports | Reports from assessors and service providers |
| Interactions | A list of your contacts with My Aged Care |
| Notifications | Messages sent to you by My Aged Care |
Why referral codes matter
When you choose a provider, they'll usually ask for a referral code. You'll find it in the Services section. That's often the moment families first log in, so it's worth setting up the account early.
Helping a parent or partner: registered supporters
Many families manage aged care together. My Aged Care lets an older person register a supporter: someone who can help them make and communicate their own decisions, and can access and update their information (My Aged Care – Apply online).
Some things to know:
- Supporters get their own Online Account. When you become a registered supporter, a record is created for you, and you set up your own access through myGov in the same way (My Aged Care).
- You see their information through your own login. You'll need the older person's consent to access their information, or you need to be their active appointed decision-maker. Then you sign in to your account and open their records from there. Don't use your parent's myGov login.
- Requests go through "Support networks". There you can ask to create or end a relationship, check the status of a request, and see your history (My Aged Care – Support networks guide).

When the login isn't working
Common snags, and what to try:
- "I can't find my record." Make sure you're registered first. If you're not sure, call 1800 200 422.
- Details don't match. The name and contact details you enter must match what My Aged Care holds. Update them by phone if they've changed.
- myGov problems. Call the myGov helpdesk on 13 23 07.
- You'd rather talk to someone. My Aged Care is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm, and Saturday, 10am to 2pm. It's closed on Sundays and national public holidays (My Aged Care – Contact).
Help in your language, and accessible options
For an interpreter, call TIS National on 131 450 and ask them to call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. People who are deaf, Deafblind or hard of hearing can contact My Aged Care through Deaf Connect (My Aged Care – Contact).
Watch out for scams
My Aged Care says it will never contact you through social media or messaging apps such as Facebook or WhatsApp, and it will never ask for your bank details. If you're unsure, hang up and call 1800 200 422 yourself (My Aged Care – Contact).
A note for aged care providers
This guide is for older people and families. Aged care providers use a separate provider portal and should follow the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing's provider guidance.
