How to use the NDIS budget planner
1. Set your plan dates
Enter your plan start and end dates. These are shown in your NDIS plan document or myplace portal.
2. Add your funding periods (if applicable)
New and reassessed plans from late 2024 onwards include funding periods. Most plans have quarterly periods. If your plan doesn't have funding periods, leave this section blank - the calculator will track your total budget across the full plan length.
3. Add your supports
Search for each support by name or item code. Enter how often you use it (hours per week or sessions per month). The calculator will show the cost per week, per funding period, and for your whole plan.
4. Review your budget
See when your funding will run out based on current usage. The calculator shows you what's left in each period and suggests a weekly spend that will last the full plan length.
5. Export your plan
Download your budget as a CSV file to share with your support coordinator, plan manager, or for your own records. All data stays on your device - we never upload it to our servers.
Understanding NDIS funding periods
The NDIA introduced funding periods to help participants pace their spending across their plan. Here's what you need to know:
- Funding periods are instalments. Your total plan funding is divided into periods (usually quarterly). You can only use the funds allocated to each period during that period.
- Not all plans have funding periods. Plans created or reassessed before late 2024 may not have them. Check your plan document or ask your support coordinator.
- Unspent funds don't automatically roll over. If you don't use all your funding in a period, you may need to request a variation to access it in a later period.
- Some supports are flexible. Certain support categories may allow more flexibility across periods. Check with your plan manager or the NDIA.
- Plan ahead. Use this calculator to see if you're on track, or if you need to adjust your support usage to make funding last.

What to do if your funding won't last
If the calculator shows you'll run out of funding before your plan ends, take these steps:
- Talk to your support coordinator or plan manager immediately. They can help you understand your options and may suggest adjusting your support mix or frequency.
- Consider a plan variation. For urgent or unforeseen needs, you can request a variation without waiting for your full plan reassessment. Use the official variation request form.
- Request a plan reassessment. From 27 August 2026, only you (or your nominee) can request a reassessment. You'll need to complete the official form and provide evidence. The NDIA must decide within 90 days.
- Review your spending patterns. Are there supports you can reduce or pause temporarily? Can you spread high-cost items across more periods?
Frequently asked questions
How do NDIS funding periods work?
From late 2024, new and reassessed NDIS plans include funding periods - usually quarterly instalments of your total plan budget. You can only spend the funds allocated to each period during that period. Any unspent funds don't roll over automatically.
What happens if I run out of funding before my plan ends?
If you're at risk of running out, contact your support coordinator or plan manager immediately. You may be able to request a plan variation for urgent needs, or wait until your next plan reassessment.
Can I use this calculator for self-managed, plan-managed, or NDIA-managed plans?
Yes. The calculator works for all plan management types. The official NDIS price limits shown apply to NDIA-managed and plan-managed supports. Self-managed participants can negotiate different rates.
Does this tool store my personal information?
No. All calculations happen in your browser only. We never send your budget details, support items, or any personal data to our servers. Your data is only saved locally in your browser if you choose.
Are the prices in this calculator accurate?
Yes. All prices come from the official NDIS Support Catalogue 2026-27 (effective 24 September 2026). We verify prices against the published catalogue and update when changes are announced.
How many support items can I add?
You can add as many supports as you need. The calculator handles multiple services across different categories and calculates total costs automatically.
Can I save my budget plan?
Yes. You can export your complete budget plan as a CSV file to open in Excel, Google Sheets, or your plan management software. You can also save it locally in your browser to resume later.
What if my support item isn't listed?
The calculator includes all 976 current support items from the 2026-27 catalogue. If you can't find a specific item, try searching by its item number (e.g., 01_011_0107_1_1) or by keywords in the item name.
