Gardening & Lawn Care at a glance
What's included
Light gardening covers lawn mowing, weeding, pruning of small shrubs, leaf clearing, and general garden tidying. It does not include heavy landscaping, tree removal, or major earthworks.
Providers on FindMyHelp typically offer:
- Lawn mowing and edging
- Weeding in garden beds, lawns, and pathways
- Pruning of shrubs and small trees for safety and access
- Leaf and debris removal
- Path clearing to reduce trip hazards
- Seasonal garden preparation
Funding and how to pay
Under the NDIS, yard maintenance is funded only where it is an essential task you cannot do because of your disability and the support meets reasonable and necessary criteria — it is not automatically funded if others in your household can do the task.
Aged care supports may be available through Support at Home or the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) for eligible clients. An assessment through My Aged Care determines what you can access.
DVA Veterans' Home Care may cover safety-related garden maintenance (for example lawn mowing where it affects access) subject to assessed need and caps — not routine weeding or pruning.
Private payment is also an option if you are not eligible for subsidised programs or prefer to self-fund.
How to compare providers
When comparing gardening providers, look beyond whether they are registered:
- Experience invoicing NDIS, Support at Home, or CHSP funding
- Whether they understand reasonable and necessary rules for yard maintenance
- Service area and scheduling consistency
- Insurance and staff screening for in-home work
- Clear hourly rates and what is included in a standard visit
