The Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) – Australia’s first hospital-based medical discovery centre – is officially opening its doors on Wednesday 11 June, marking the culmination of more than two decades of planning, collaboration and investment in Australia’s biomedical engineering future. An artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm used to detect breast cancer in screening images can estimate a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer over the next four years more accurately than current methods, according to a paper published in the prestigious international medical journal, The Lancet Digital Health. St Vincent’s is playing a key role as a lead trial site in a pilot research project investigating an intervention aimed at improving health outcomes for people with disabilities who attend Emergency Departments.
