What changed
The Commission’s provider registration page states that from 12 October 2026 there are two provider portals: the existing portal and the new NDIS Commission Portal. Start anything new in the new portal. Finish work you already had underway in the existing portal.
The Commission’s 12 October checklist says your obligations and the NDIS Practice Standards do not change. What changes is the system you use to complete that work. For a period, providers use both portals. Which portal you use depends on the task and whether the work started before or after 12 October.
- Draft new registration applications in the existing portal were removed on 12 October 2026. Submit a draft before then, or start a new application in the new portal.
- Applications submitted before 12 October 2026 stay in the existing portal, including checking progress or withdrawing them.
- Everyone with an active account in the existing portal has an account in the new portal. You do not need to set those users up again.
- Roles do not map one-to-one between the two portals. From 12 October, check the roles your staff have in the new portal and update them if needed.
- User accounts are managed separately in each portal. If you create or deactivate a user in one portal after 12 October, you must do the same in the other.
Who must use the new portal
The Commission’s Which portal do I use? guidance says to use the new portal for new work from 12 October, and the existing portal to finish work already underway and to access historical records.
From 12 October, the Commission says registered providers start these in the new portal:
- a new re-registration (renewal) application
- a notification of a change or event that affects your registration
- an audit that is not yet scheduled
- a new reportable incident
- a new behaviour support plan
- worker screening activities, including verification requests and managing worker records
Unregistered providers who want to become registered sign in to the new NDIS Commission Portal and start a new registration application. The Commission says that is the only function available to unregistered providers in the new portal. For everything else, they keep using the portals they use today.
To sign in, the Commission says you need a PRODA account or a myID, with Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) authorisation if you are accessing the portal on behalf of an organisation.
How to apply for registration
The Commission’s apply for registration page says: if you are starting a new application, use the new NDIS Commission Portal. If you already have an application underway, finish it in the existing portal.
Applications are completed online in two parts. The Commission’s portal overview says Part 1 is an initial suitability assessment and Part 2 is a more detailed assessment against the NDIS Practice Standards. You can see the status of your application in the portal.
- Log in to the new NDIS Commission Portal.
- Select Start Application to create a new registration application.
- Enter your Australian Business Number (ABN). The portal links to the Australian Business Register and enters some business information for you.
- Complete and submit Part 1. You will receive a notification of the initial assessment outcome.
- Complete and submit Part 2, with additional service and self-assessment details.
- Use the scope of audit document to start the quality audit and nominate an approved quality auditor. The portal notifies the auditor.
- Follow the Commission’s registration quick reference guides for the screens in the portal.
Before you start Part 1, the Commission’s Easy Read Part 1 guide says you need:
- access to the new NDIS Commission Portal
- your ABN
- business contact details (registered business address, postal address, email and phone number)
- your registration groups (the service and support categories you will provide)
- the total number of NDIS participants you currently support (zero if you are a new business)
- the total number of workers you have
- details for your key personnel, including each person’s NDIS Worker Screening ID
- if a key person is still applying for a worker screening check, their NDIS worker screening application ID instead
How to renew (re-register)
The Commission’s re-registration page says: from 12 October 2026, start all re-registration applications in the new NDIS Commission Portal. If you started or submitted a re-registration application in the existing portal before 12 October, finish it in the existing portal.
- Start the process any time in the 6 months before your registration expiry date.
- Log in to the new portal and follow the re-registration quick reference guide.
- Confirm your registration groups, update them if they have changed, and submit the re-registration application.
If you start before your expiry date, your current registration remains valid until the Commission makes a decision on the application. If you start after the expiry date, the registration has lapsed and you will not have a valid registration during the application process.
The Commission says the re-registration process has the same steps as the initial application, including a review by the NDIS Commission and a certificate of registration.
Registration is associated with a single ABN. If you still have the same ABN, follow the re-registration steps in the new portal. If you have a new ABN — for example because the structure of your business has changed — the Commission treats that as a new application under the apply for registration process.
Staff access and roles
From 12 October, the Commission says your Registrant creates the user record for a new user, and your Access Delegate provisions their access, assigns roles, and deactivates accounts in the new portal.
Make sure at least one active staff member is assigned to each role your organisation needs. The published roles are:
- Registrant
- Access Delegate
- Worker Screening Officer
- Behaviour Support Lodgement Officer
- Restrictive Practice Reporting Officer
- Reportable Incidents Officer
