What are Registration Groups?

NDIS registration is organised into registration groups, which are categories of supports defined in the NDIS Rules. Each registration group has a four-digit code (e.g., 0104, 0125, 0139).

When you register as an NDIS provider, you nominate which registration groups you intend to provide supports under. Common registration groups include:

  • 0104 — Assistance with Daily Life (support workers, personal care)
  • 0115 — Therapeutic Supports (OT, physio, speech pathology)
  • 0125 — Plan Management
  • 0126 — Support Coordination
  • 0139 — High Intensity Daily Personal Activities (SIL)
  • 0137 — Providing an NDIS Digital Platform Service

Your registration groups determine which NDIS supports you can provide and claim payment for from NDIA-managed and plan-managed participants.

Two Types of Audits: Verification and Certification

To become registered, you must undergo a quality audit by an approved NDIS auditor. There are two types of audits:

Verification Audit

A verification audit is the less intensive audit type and applies to most registration groups.

Covers: Core Module of the NDIS Practice Standards plus any relevant supplementary modules

Process: Desktop review of policies and procedures, interviews, and sample checks

Validity: Up to 3 years

Certification Audit

A certification audit is more comprehensive and required for high-risk supports.

Required for: Registration groups 0137 (NDIS Digital Platforms) and 0139 (SIL)

Process: More intensive assessment including on-site inspections, extensive documentation review, and participant interviews

Validity: Up to 3 years

If you register for any group requiring certification (0137 or 0139), your entire audit will be a certification audit, even if your other groups would normally only require verification.

Mandatory vs Voluntary Registration

As of 1 July 2026, registration is mandatory for:

  • SIL providers (0139): Anyone providing High Intensity Daily Personal Activities must be registered
  • Digital platform providers (0137): Operators of NDIS digital platforms (as defined in the Rules) must be registered

For all other registration groups, registration is voluntary but often beneficial:

  • NDIA-managed participants can only use registered providers
  • Plan-managed participants may prefer registered providers
  • Registration demonstrates compliance with quality and safeguarding standards
