Carer Allowance is a separate supplementary payment for daily care, and you can get both. This calculator uses the official Services Australia rates and the pension income and assets tests.

How the income and assets tests work
- Income test: singles can have $226 a fortnight before the payment reduces by 50 cents per dollar. Couples can have $396 combined, then each payment reduces by 25 cents per dollar.
- Assets test: the payment reduces by $3 a fortnight for every $1,000 over the limit (singles), or $1.50 each for couples. A single homeowner can have $333,000 in assets for a full rate; a couple homeowner $499,000 combined.
- You get whichever test gives the lower amount.
- You can work up to 100 hours in a 4-week period.
- Carer Allowance is $162.60 a fortnight and isn't income tested below $250,000 combined income a year. Each payment brings a $600 Carer Supplement each year.
