NDIS lawn mowing: can NDIS pay, and how much per hour?
Find local gardeners
Can NDIS pay for lawn mowing?
Yes, the NDIS can pay for lawn mowing if:
- You can't mow your lawn yourself because of your disability
- You have Core Supports funding in your plan
- The cost is reasonable for the size and condition of your yard
Lawn mowing falls under House or Yard Maintenance (support item 01_019_0120_1_1), which has a national price limit of $59.01 per hour for 2026-27.
What's included in NDIS lawn mowing
A typical NDIS lawn mowing service includes:
- Mowing the grass (front and back yards)
- Edging along paths and garden beds
- Blowing or raking grass clippings
- Green waste disposal (to the kerb or bin)
What's not included
The NDIS won't fund:
- Lawn renovation or re-turfing
- Fertilising or pesticide treatment (unless part of basic maintenance)
- Major landscaping or garden redesign
- One-off property preparation (e.g., before selling)
How much per visit?
The cost depends on how long it takes to mow your lawn. For example:
- Small courtyard or townhouse (15 minutes): $14.75 (¼ hour × $59.01)
- Standard suburban block (30 minutes): $29.51
- Large block or acreage (1 hour): $59.01

How often can I claim lawn mowing?
There's no set limit. The frequency depends on:
- Your Core Supports budget
- Your lawn's growth rate (climate, season, grass type)
- What's reasonable for your property
Most participants claim lawn mowing every 1–3 weeks in spring and summer, and monthly or less often in winter.
How to claim NDIS lawn mowing
- Check your plan: Make sure you have Core Supports funding.
- Find a provider: Search for NDIS gardening providers or lawn mowing services near you.
- Book the service: The provider invoices using item code 01_019_0120_1_1.
- Payment: Your plan manager pays the invoice (plan-managed), or you pay and claim reimbursement (self-managed).
